Historic Law Enforcement Partnership Announced Between Town of Alma and Town of Fairplay

On January 22, 2024, a landmark event took place in the Town of Fairplay, Colorado, marking a new era in law enforcement for the communities of Fairplay and Alma. The Fairplay Board of Trustees, along with members of the public, gathered to witness the badge pinning ceremony and administration of Oaths of Office for the new officers of the Fairplay Police Department.

Chief Worley proudly swore in Sergeants Brian Knellinger and Ronald Martinez, alongside Officers Dezarae Wood, Mason Prickett, Jordan Peters, Steve Berlanga, and James DeSchryver. FTO and Records and Evidence Technician Barb Grover, along with Part-time Officer Carle Schlaff, also participated in this momentous occasion. The ceremony was a testament to the dedication and bravery of these individuals, who will soon begin their duties to serve and protect the Town of Fairplay starting February 5, 2024, after completing their training.

In a historic move, the Town of Alma will partner with the Town of Fairplay for law enforcement services. This collaboration, formalized through an Intergovernmental Agreement, will see the Fairplay Police Department providing coverage for Alma and its residents. This partnership aims to enhance the safety, health, and welfare of both communities, ensuring a unified approach to law enforcement.

Chief Worley extended gratitude to Sheriff Tom McGraw and the Park County Sheriff’s Office for their invaluable support during Fairplay’s rebuilding phase. The new officers and the community are encouraged to follow the Fairplay Police Department on Facebook starting in February to stay informed about activities and important updates.

Please join us in welcoming these courageous officers to our community and look out for them on the streets as they begin their service. This partnership signifies a promising step forward in fostering strong, collaborative community relations.

Welcome aboard, Officers! We look forward to the positive impact you will bring to both the Town of Fairplay and the Town of Alma.
